VISAKHAPATNAM: Collector Pravin Kumar, after visiting Rushikonda beach on Thursday said, a protection wall will be constructed to prevent further erosion of the beach.

Rushikonda beach which was hit by severe erosion due to the recent rain caused by the southwest monsoon will be restored to its original state soon, he assured.

Pravin Kumar added that the Tourism department will take up beautification works on the beach premises which is one of the major tourist spots in the state.

Many anxious visitors have rushed to the beach after the news of its erosion came to light forcing the marine police to impose restrictions on the entry of public.

The collector after inspecting the erosion of coast, discussed plans to restore the beach’s beauty with regional director of Tourism department R Sreeramulu and GVMC superintendent engineer Chandraiah.

Pravin Kumar also advised to lay boulders and strengthen the protecting the wall. “In the likes of the restoration works done at the Gokul Park when affected by erosion earlier, Rushikonda beach will also be developed well in the same way for the tourists.”

According to the collector’s plan, the  vendors on the beach premises will be shifted to a safe place. The district authorities along with the GVMC will also take measures to maintain cleanliness.

Tourism department will construct an amphitheatre near the beach and an approach road would also be constructed as part of the beautification programme. While the authorities are adopting temporary methods to control the erosion, the National Institute of Oceanography in the city is looking for a permanent solution for the beach erosion problem.
