Over Rs 26L donated for Annadanam

Donations are pouring in to the Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) for food distribution to pilgrims at Pushkar Nagar Goruntla in the outskrits of the city.As on Wednesday, philanthropists have donated `26.56 lakh for annadanam.

GMC Additional Commissioner Krishna Kaparthi, who is monitoring the Pushkar Nagar arrangements at Goruntla, said that all donations will be han ed over to ISKCON, as they are taking up the food distribution programme in the area.

“We have allocated the required space for kitchen and dining purposes for distributing and preparing the food to pilgrims,” he added.

The Guntur Urban Police have enforced Police Act 30. Under this Act, in force from Thursday, rallies, rasta rokos, meetings and other demonstrations within the Guntur Urban Police district ambit will be disallowed. SP Sarva Sresht Tripathi on Wednesday issued a warning to those violating the Act and requested the cooperation of one and all for the smooth conduct of the river festival. He also directed police officials to keep a watch on the movement of criminals and ensure rowdy sheeters are kept at bayISKCON is making arrangements for the distribution of  food to at least 1.2 lakh pilgrims per day.
