GMC all set to welcome pilgrims

GUNTUR: Guntur city is being spruced up for affording a grand welcome to pilgrims thronging the district for the 12-day Krishna Pushkarams commencing on Friday.

After widening and beautifying all important roads leading to Pushkar ghats, officials have also set up a Pushkar Nagar for providing a temporary stay for pilgrims at Goruntla on Amaravati road. Apart from a boost to the infrastructure, free WiFi is also being offered in the Pushkar Nagar around an area of 25 acres.

The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner S Nagalakshmi said the pilgrims can have all facilities for refreshment and entertainment in Pushkar Nagar. Pilgrims can also purchase the commodities for performing all Pushkaram-related rituals in the stalls in the Pushkar Nagar.

“With the aim of providing a pleasant stay to the large number of pilgrims expected to throng the city during the ensuing Krishna Pushkarams, we have erected massive sheds for providing accommodation to the pilgrims. It will also have a food court along with kitchen and dining place,” she said.

This apart, pilgrims will also be facilitated with medical camps and an ambulance on standby. In addition to a temporary bus station, the Pushkar Nagar will also have a railway ticket counter.

To maintain sanitation at the Pushkar Nagar, the GMC has allocated 150 sanitation workers, who will discharges duties in three shifts for cleaning the garbage time-to-time.
