VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority will conduct a draw of lots for the allotment of LIG and EWS (economically weaker sections) plots at Dakamarri layout, at Andhra University Convocation Hall on October 26.

A notification will be issued on September 12 and the last date for submitting the filled-in applications is September 14. Briefing the media at VUDA office here on Wednesday, HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said: “The applicants should attach a copy of Aadhaar card, income certificate and proof of residence with the applications along with a bank draft of Rs 500 drawn in favour of vice-chairman, VUDA and the lottery is only for the residents of Andhra Pradesh.”

Earlier, an auction was conducted for 183 HIG and 348 MIG plots spread over 98.94 acre which had fetched Rs 34 crore to the VUDA which is now expecting to net Rs 24 crore through draw of lots for the EWS and LIG plots.

“Of the 1,163 plots, including HIG, MIG, LIG and EWS, the developer has got 222 plots and the VUDA 941 plots. Similarly, the VUDA has got a share of 172 plots and the developer 43 plots, now the lottery will be conducted for the 172 plots, said the minister.

Of the plots up for grab, 15 per cent (26 plots) has been reserved for defence and ex-servicemen, 14 per cent (24 plots) for Scheduled Castes, 4 per cent (7 plots) for Scheduled Tribe, Backward Classes 15 per cent (26 plots) and another 20 per cent (34 plots for government and retired employees). Later when the mediapersons reminded him of the VUDA indulging in business rather than extending help to the middle and lower middle classes, the rate of EWS and LIG plots which was Rs 8,000 per square yard was brought down to Rs 6,000.
