Speeding lorry kills 4, injures two passengers stuck in auto

GUNTUR: Four persons died and two others were injured in a freak road accident in Tadepalli mandal of Guntur district on Friday.

According to police, an auto-rickshaw proceeding to Vijayawada from Guntur turned turtle on the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway at Kunchanapalli. On receiving information about the incident, highway patrolling police rushed to the spot and began rescuing the passengers stuck in the auto.

Meanwhile, a speeding truck proceeding towards Vijayawada in the same direction  hit the stationed police vehicle and rammed into the auto. While two passengers died on the spot, two others succumbed to injuries at the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada.

The victims were identified as Bahadur  (54) and Ram Bahadur  (40), both natives of Nepal and settled in Guntur to sell woollen clothes. The two other deceased were Arun Kumar  (24) and Rajasekhar  (23), both from Guntur city. The lorry sped from the spot.
