Police issues guidelines on Ganesh Chaturthi

VIJAYAWADA: The Police Commissionerate has issued instructions for erection of Ganesh pandals, idols and immersion processions for the ensuing ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’.

The organisers have to get permission from the city police commissionerate to set up a pandal and take out procession. The utsav committees should submit a form of requisition at Unified Police Service Centre (UPSC), which will work from 10 am to 5 pm every day. The application forms are available at the UPSC for free.

The police imposed a ban on loud speakers and would only permit box-type speakers, which should not exceed 55 decibels during morning hours and 45 decibels in the night. These should be used only between 6 am and 10 pm during the 9-day festivities.

Guidelines have also been issued regarding safe electric wiring to avoid short-circuits and arrangement of parking places at particular distance from pandals to avert traffic congestions. Usage of banners, colours and fireworks is strictly restricted.

The police appealed to the religious leaders not to deliver speeches and statements against other religions, and the people to maintain the city clean.
