VISAKHAPATNAM: The PM Palem police seized around Rs 1 crore cash, all in demonetised Rs 500 denominations, from an SUV on the NH16 here on Tuesday late night and detained two persons on board.
During the routine check-up, a police team intercepted the SUV at Yendada and found the cash.

The vehicle was on its way from Keonjhar district of Odisha to East Godavari district. On questioning, the two persons on board claimed that they were the employees of M/S Triveni Earthmovers, an Odisha-based company, and that the cash was meant for the salary payment of the company staff working in East Godavari district.

“Asked to show valid documents in favour of the transaction, the two persons showed us a letter saying that the cash was meant for salary payment and medical bills of the company employees working at Polavaram. We have asked to produce appraised accounts for the notes. But, till now (7 pm on Wednesday), they haven’t. We will handover the cash to IT officials for scrutiny,” said inspector K Lakshmana Murthy.  Police say if it is found that the amount was being transported illegally, appropriate actions would be taken.
