VIJAYAWADA: As part of promoting the industrial sector in Amaravati, the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) has earmarked 2,200 acres in the capital region for the purpose of setting up manufacturing units.

Participating in the conference on manufacturing with the focus theme “Innovation and Sustainable Growth” organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here on Monday, CRDA Commissioner Ch Sreedhar said the nation lagged behind in terms of manufacturing, particularly in electronic manufacturing.

“As we are failing to adopt innovations and upgrade technology, we are not in a position to achieve sustainable industrial growth, but I am sure that we can overcome the hurdle by giving special emphasis to research and development activity,” he said.

Underscoring the need for setting up electronic manufacturing units, he said the nation was losing over 200 billion dollars by importing 95 per cent of electric and electronic gadgets from abroad. Though the country is managing to generate revenue in the service sector, we are losing it by importing electronic gadgets from China, Taiwan and Thailand, he observed.

Stating that the CRDA will develop an ecosystem and knowledge-sharing system for those coming forward for setting up manufacturing establishments, particularly electronic manufacturing units in Amaravati, he said enough emphasis will be given for development of industries. AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation vice-chairman and managing director J Nivas said steps are on to set up a MSME in every constituency of the state.
