Chennai-bound flights from Visakhapatnam cancelled, diverted 

Chennai airport authorities and other officials keep stranded passengers in the loop about the cancellation and diversion of flights.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Flights bound for Chennai from Visakhapatnam are either being cancelled or diverted to other cities as cyclone Vardah makes a landfall on Chennai coast. Of the four flights to Chennai from Visakhaptnam, three have already been cancelled.

Visakhapatnam Airport Director Vinod Kumar said that two Indigo flights scheduled to depart from Vizag to Chennai at around 9am and 2.30pm have been diverted to other cities.

Meanwhile, one SpiceJet flight scheduled at 2pm has also been cancelled, he said. Another SpiceJet flight that is scheduled to reach Vizag from Chennai at around 9.30pm, for which a decision would be taken by the Chennai airport authorities, depending on the situation. He said that the Vizag airport authorities, as well as other officials concerned, have been informing the passengers about the cancellation of flights through messages, calls and e-mails.

Apart from Flights to Chennai, a SpiceJet flight from Tirupathi to Vizag, scheduled to land at around 12.30pm has also been cancelled, he said.
