ELURU: An Intermediate girl Mukkera Jyothika (17) allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house at Tangellamudi in the city on Thursday unable to bear the ‘harassment’ of lecturers of NRI Junior College. It was alleged that a chemistry lecturer and another lecturer were harassing Jyothika for quite sometime though she was a brilliant student.

Jyothika who was being constantly downgraded by the two lecturers in academics, informed the matter to her father Venkata Subba Rao, a chicken centre owner.  Though Subba Rao complained to the college management about the harassment by the two lecturers about a month ago, no action has been initiated against them.

Jyothika who returned home from the college this afternoon, resorted to the extreme step. On hearing the news of suicide, ABVP and PDSU activists staged a dharna at the NRI College demanding action against the two lecturers who harassed Jyothika, which drove her to suicide.

Board of Intermediate Education Regional Inspection Officer MA Khadar visited the college and pacified the agitating students by promising to take action against the guilty after conducting an inquiry into the matter. Three Town police registered a case.
