Posing as policemen, gang loots gold, cash from house in Andhra Pradesh

The gang members threatened Raju and his mother with knives and asked them to hand over the gold and cash.

VISAKHAPATNAM: A 4-member gang, masquerading as police personnel, allegedly entered the house of a fast food centre owner at Chaitanyanagar near Maddilapalem on Friday afternoon and looted 210 gram of gold ornaments and Rs 51,000 in cash at knifepoint.

However, the police are suspecting that it’s a handiwork of the rivals of the victim. Clad in police uniform, the gang members knocked the doors of the house of a fast food centre owner, V Chandrasekhara Raju at around  1.30 pm. His mother Vijaya Lakshmi, after seeing the men in uniform, opened the door. Saying that they came to enquire about a crime occurred in the locality, the gang members entered the house, police said, quoting the victims as saying.   

The gang members threatened Raju and his mother with knives and asked them to hand over the gold and cash. They tied them with a saree and stuffed their mouths with handkerchiefs. While two members put knives on the victims and the other two opened the almirah and gathered the cash and gold. At around 2.20 pm, the miscreants left the place. Raju then managed to free himself and called up the police.

The police inspected the scene of the crime. After examining the footage of CCTV installed in the area, the police said that the four accused conducted a recce in the locality for one hour before entering the house. The sniffer dogs deployed by the police went to the national highway at Maddilapalem and returned.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crimes) T Ravi Kumar Murthy is supervising the investigation and Three town inspector TA Naidu is investigating the case.
