English medium schools accused of punishing students for speaking in Telegu

The English medium schools which are punishing students for speaking in Telugu on the campus to have recognition cancelled.

VIJAYAWADA: Deputy Speaker and Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly Petitions Committee Chairman  Mandali Buddha Prasad has directed School Education Commissioner K Sandhya Rani to identify the English medium schools which are punishing students for speaking in Telugu on the campus and cancel their recognition.

Reviewing the implementation of Telugu language in the education sector and general administration and measures taken for the promotion of Telugu language at a meeting here on Friday, he said several complaints were received against private schools pertaining to neglect of Telugu language.

The School Education Department should not remain a silent spectator while private and corporate institutions were neglecting the implementation of official language Telugu. Name boards of all educational institutions, shops and business establishments in the State should be in Telugu.

The government departments should focus on use of Telugu in official correspondence. The officials should also ensure that plaques of foundation stones and inauguration of development projects of the State government should be in Telugu.

In case of development projects sponsored by the Central government, the plaques should be in Telugu and English, he said.
