Guntur stands second in Swachh AP rankings

GUNTUR: The Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) stood in the second place in the state in construction of individual toilets and is well on its way to end open defecation, under the Swachh Andhra Pradesh programme.

According to GMC Commissioner S Nagalakshmi, the State government was according priority for construction of common toilets as part of the Open Defecation Free (ODF) initiative in all the cities.
While Visakhapatnam stood first in the list by constructing 11,270 toilets, Guntur city stood second with 7,160. In Guntur municipal corporation, there are 62 wards including the merged villages. In those wards, 6,886 toilets were completed. There are proposals for constructing 23 community toilets, where two were already constructed in Pichukalagunta and Puchalapalli Sundaraiah Nagar.
