Financier held for thrashing woman

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Anakapalle Town Police on Wednesday arrested a private financier on charge of thrashing a woman over immediate repayment of a two-year-old loan and interest amount, in Gavarapalem area.

The accused, identified as B Seetharam, is a small financier in the town. According to Anakapalle(Town) Inspector S Vidyasagar, the victim, Ramalakshmi, who took a loan of Rs 30,000 from Seetharam around two years ago, has repaid Rs 70,000 towards the interest so far. However, she did not pay the interest in the last two months. On Wednesday, Seetharam went to Ramalakshmi’s house and demanded that she must repay the pending interest, along with the principal amount immediately.

With the woman expressing her inability to repay the lump-sum amount, Seetharam beat her up severely.

An injured Ramalakshmi, along with a few of her relatives, lodged complaint with the local police.
