VISAKHAPATNAM: Engineering students gave shape to their scentific imaginations in robotics as they came up with various desgin of robots at a workshop on ‘Robotics and Embeded Systems’ held on Andhra University campus here on Sunday.

As many as 102 students from various colleges divided themselves into groups to come up with desgins of master-slave robot, which can cook and do household chores with the help of Electronics Platform Research Labs (EPR), Chennai.

“There are more opportunities for industrial based robots than those are engaged for doing daily chores. Students, though have interest in robotics, lag behind in understanding the concepts,” said Purushothaman Ranganathan, CEO of EPR Labs.

Explaining about the career in robotics, he said: “India still doesn’t believe that robots can work. More passion is there among students in this field of science. But, academic pressure remains the major hurdle.”

Purushothaman has designed a robot named ‘Prince’ which can be used for automation such as fixing of lights and fans, security surveillance, education purpose and a pet robot which can be used for security purposes. “It took me three years to design the robot and now I have 150 robots which will be taken by the European countries. Each robot costs `25,000”, he said, adding that he is now working on designing the master-slave robot.
