Vizag agog over alleged gangrape of teenager

VISAKHAPATNAM: A 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by five youngsters, four of them minors, in a house at Nakkavanipalem area of Visakhapatnam.

The incident took place about five days ago, but came to light this morning after the Gajuwaka police filed a case on the basis of a statement by the girl and her parents.

As per the complaint, one of the accused inviteed the girl, a class VIII student, to his room for 'dance practice'. Later four of the man's friends joined them there.

According to the police, the girl told her parents about the rape Saturday, but her parents, afraid of social stigma, did not lodge a police complaint immediately as their their elder daughter was due to be married soon. However, the new broke on a regional language TV channel and the police approached parents and convinced them to file a complaint.

Police sources said out of the five accused, three youngsters have been taken into custody for interrogation.
