Wi-Fi facility promised to government schools in Andhra Pradesh

Internet facility provided by the fibregrid project to be used to teach students in digital classrooms

VISAKHAPATNAM: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday launched the digital classrooms in 1,280 government schools. Naidu said that with the usage of internet from the fibregrid project, the state government will also provide Wi-Fi to the schools, through which browsing cyber world is also possible.

The `100-crore project was launched through Skype, where children from various schools in the State witnessed the event in their classrooms on screens. On the occasion, Naidu said that the audio-video presentations in the classes will generate interest among the students in studies. “There are a number of good teachers in the state. We would identify them and if possible, we would arrange live classes for the students with them. It may be across a district or to a limited number of schools. Students can also pose questions to the teachers,” said Naidu and added that the digital classroom facility would be provided in all 42,000 government schools.

Naidu also said that the state government was planning to provide Wi-Fi in all universities and colleges. Launching the project through Skype, the Chief Minister interacted with the students through video conferencing facility.
Naidu also interacted with students of Government High School at Kuppam in Chittoor district, his own constituency. Naidu asked the students and headmasters about the digital classes. Naidu also gave an opportunity to students to talk about their academic progress.

Special Representative of Andhra Pradesh Government in North America Komati Jayaram said that they would also try to develop around 7,000 anganwadi centres and beautify burial grounds.
