The State government on Friday announced Rs 15 crore for the welfare of police personnel in the State.

VIJAYAWADA: The State government on Friday announced Rs 15 crore for the welfare of police personnel in the State.
A permanent memorial for policemen, who sacrificed their lives while on duty, will also be built in Mangalagiri before October, 2017 and police commemoration days will be organised there itself, announced Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

The Chief Minister was speaking after the police parade held on the occasion of the Police Commemoration Day at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium. Earlier, he paid homage to the 473 personnel who laid down their lives in the service of the nation.  
While praising the services of the police personnel and recalling the sacrifices made by them, he explained that the State government had decided to offer a job to a family member of the martyrs and also announced that henceforth, an ex gratia of `5 lakh will be paid to the family of any home guard who loses his life while on duty.

Elaborating on the government’s initiatives to further strengthen and modernise the police department, Chandrababu Naidu underscored the importance of adopting latest technology like deployment of drones to tackle various challenges.
“Even the stress levels of the police can be brought down by using technology. The State government will build a multi-speciality hospital with all modern facilities in the capital region for the benefit of the police personnel in coming days,” the Chief Minister said.
Recalling the ultimate sacrifice made by 14 police personnel in the last one year in the State, Naidu said police, army, navy and air force personnel have dedicated their lives for the welfare of the society. They are working round-the-clock to protect public, he added.  

Prior to the Chief Minister’s address, Governor ESL Narasimhan paid rich tributes to the martyrs and observed two-minute silence.
Home Minister Nimmakayala Chinarajappa and Director General of Police N Sambasiva Rao also spoke on the occasion.
