VIJAYAWADA: State education department is planning to upgrade the syllabus for engineering and polytechnic courses. Concepts about Internet Of Things (IoT) will be included in the new syllabus to familiarise the students with integrated technology.

“Already concepts regarding IoT have been included in first year syllabus of both engineering and polytechnic courses. Further upgradation of syllabus is under process and soon they will be modified,” Commissioner for State Technical Education and Collegiate Education B Udaya Lakshmi said.

Internet of Things is related to integration of several technologies including communications, tracking technologies, wired and wireless sensor and actuator networks, enhanced communication protocols, and intelligence for smart objects.

According to Ganesh Ramamoorthy, vice-president of Gartner, a USA-based technology research company, IoT will be creating new technologies in almost all fields. Airlines is the biggest industry which is utilising IoT.

In Sea Ports, Agriculture, Aqua industry, food processing, automobiles, electronics, data safety and security, smart homes, smart city dynamics, health industry and scientific research, IoT can be the future.
Ramamoorthy noted that with the development and implementation of IoT devices, monitoring of energy preservation, optimal consumption, minimising energy wastage can be possible and they in turn will improve energy efficiency.

Experts at the national seminar on ‘Intelligent system for more connected world - Internet of Things’ organised by The Institute of Engineers India (IEI), Andhra Pradesh state center, opined that, optimisation of IoT devices in all fields can yield best performance results. To teach the IoT concepts, IEI will be conducting special workshops to the faculty of 226 engineering colleges in the state to the selected members.
