Velagapudi IGC operations likely from Dasara

GUNTUR: Construction work at the Interim Government Complex (IGC) near Velagapudi is nearing completion and if all goes well, the operations would commence from Dasara. While the entire structure of the complex is ready, the workers are busy fine tuning and colouring works. The interior works too are being taken up simulatenously.

More than 15 departments including irrigation, civil supplies, panchayat raj, revenue and home departments have already occupied their offices and commenced their operations from the interim Secretariat, but only on a temporary basis.

The shifting began in June this year, after the construction commenced in February.

The planning department is scheduled to shift on September 16 and the welfare department on September 17, followed by the municipal administration and urban development department on September 19. Of 38 departments from the AP Secretariat in Hyderabad, around 15 have already found place at Velagapudi and some of them are operating their services from here itself.

The chamber of the chief minister is almost complete and interiors works in the chamber are going on as per Vaastu. Besides the chambers allotted to the ministers, secretaries and other top officials, the conference rooms are also ready for occupation. However, construction companies are yet to complete the fine tuning works and interior works, besides placement of necessary furniture and other office goods including computers.

The chief minister made frequent visits to the Secretariat in the last a couple of months to speed up works and also reviwed periodically through virtual inspections using closed circuit cameras and satellite imagery.

Meanwhile, the Cabinet sub-committee headed by finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu conducted its first meeting. Civil supplies minister Paritala Suneeta also held a review meeting at the Secretariat complex on Wednesday.

Temporary secretariat special officer A Mallikharjuna Rao told Express that barring internet facility, toilets and other sanitation work, installation of fire fighting equipment and other minor works, the entire Secretariat complex will be ready before this month end.
