HC orders status quo on Kundu Penna works

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court has ordered that status quo to be maintained regarding the works of Kundu Penna Link Canal (KPLC) project in Kadapa district. Justice A Ramalingeswara Rao recently passed this order in a writ petition filed by Pratap Reddy and 55 other farmers of Parlapadu village, Rajupalem mandal, Kadapa district. According to the petitioners, the canal was mooted in the year 2007 by the erstwhile AP government claiming that water supply for Proddatur town will be made available. A pick up anicut and head regulator across Kundu river near Nagarajupalli was proposed.

The flood flow canal from this village was to take water to Penna river near Peddasettipalli village. Two sub-service dams in Penna river were planned so that Proddatur town will get water supply. However, the officers overlooked the fact that the canal area will  be submerged in the back waters of Rajoli reservoir. When the contractor had changed the alignment thrice, the farmers approached the HC for justice.
