River recedes after a rise in water level at Dowleswaram Barrage, all gates lifted

ELURU: The Godavari river is in spate in West Godavari district following heavy rains in Telangana. The water level in the river at Bhadrachalam is on the rise. According to the irrigation officials, the water level in the river at Polavaram is set to rise by tomorrow. The flood water entered Velairpadu mandal on Sunday.

The Sabari river which merges into Akhanda Gowthami in West Godavari district is also in spate. However, there is no immediate flood threat to villages adjacent to the river.

Edduvagu rivulet is also swelling between Velairpadu and Koida villages following rise in inflows. If the water level in the rivulet increases further, about 20 villages in the area will be cut off from the rest of the world till it recedes.

The cofferdam works of the Polavaram project came to a standstill following rise in the water level in the area. The flood water reached the diaphragm wall area. According to the project officials, the works will resume once the river starts receding at Polavaram.
