RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM: Incessant rain lashed Rajamahendravaram revenue division on Friday and Saturday affecting the normal life. Daily wages and street vendors were the worst hit due to the incessant rain.

Though water level in Godavari river at Dowleswaram Barrage rose, it is not up to the optimum level. No flood warning has been issued. B Rambabu, Superintending Engineer, Irrigation Department, said the water level stood at 23.1 feet at Dowleswaram Barrage at 4 pm on Sunday.

Though the water level in the river rose to 28 feet in the morning, it came down to 23.1 feet by the evening as it started receding following stoppage of the rain. The river is receiving 1.96 lakh cusecs of water from its catchment areas. All the 175 gates of Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage kept lifted to allow the water flow downstream. The water level in the river at the road-cum-rail bridge is also steady.
