An employee of the Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train at Nellimarla in Vizianagaram district on Monday.

SRIKAKULAM: An employee of the Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train at Nellimarla in Vizianagaram district on Monday.  30-year-old N Venkatesh, a resident of Vizianagaram, was working as a junior assistant at the DCI office in Nellimarla. According to police, he was worried that he might lose his job as the Union government was planning to privatise the DCI.

“Venkatesh was worried about his uncertain future in case the DCI is privatised.  A suicide note found near his body stated that he had taken loans and he would not clear his loans if he lost his job after the DCI was privatised,” said Palasa railway SI K Ravi Kumar. A case has been registered by Palasa Railway Police.
Already, the DCI employees in Vizag are vehemently opposing the move of privatising the DCI and staging protests.
