VISAKHAPATNAM: Disappointed with her poor performance in examination, a 19-year-old degree student committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house at Chodavaram in Visakhapatnam district on Monday night.

P Haritha, a degree first-year student at a private college at Chodavaram, wrote her first-semester Chemistry papers on Monday.

"After returning home, she broke down before her family saying that she had not done the exam well and would fail. At around 7 pm, she hanged herself from a ceiling fan when her family members were away from home," Chodavaram sub-inspector Malleswara Rao said.

The post-mortem was performed on Tuesday morning and a case has been registered.
