GUNTUR: District Collector K Sasidhar has directed officials to complete ongoing underground drainage (UGD) works in the city on a war footing.The Collector, along with GMC Commissioner Ch Anuradha, R&B SE Madhavi Sukanya, Public Health and Municipal Engineering Department SE Ramesh, GMC SE D Marianna and other officials inspected the underground drainage works at Lalpuram and other areas in the city.
Later, a review meeting was held with the Public Health and Municipal Engineering Department officials on the progress of UGD works at the GMC office here on Tuesday. Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said the government had released `90 crore to take up UGD works in the city. He asked the GMC officials to expedite road expansion works in the city. He informed that pipelines have been laid to a stretch of 256 km as against 1,083 km and instructed the officials to complete the works by December 2018.
The Collector stated that the government had released `26 crore to lay tar roads to a length of 56 km in the city. He directed the officials to cover 84,000 manholes in the city.
