Chilakaluripet bypass road works soon

Farmers to get compensation which is four times the market value; surveyors take up peg marking

GUNTUR: The proposed 14.5 km bypass six-lane road works on Vijayawada-Chennai National Highway 16 will start soon to ease traffic problems at Chilakaluripet in Guntur district.
The national highway passes through Chilakaluripet and other villages, which is creating traffic problems. Hence, the officials proposed a plan to acquire 430.76 acres of land from 400 farmers to reduce traffic on highway criss-crossing the towns and villages in Guntur district.

The proposed bypass six-lane road will pass through Timmapuram, Nadendla, Purushothapatnam, Murikipudi and Boppudi villages in Yadlapadu, Nadendla and Chilakaluripet mandals of Guntur district.
In the year 2007, a NHAI report suggested that a bypass road should be laid wherever small towns existed with a view to reduce the fatalities in road accidents. But, 400 farmers moved court against land acquisition for bypass road as the compensation they were offered was very less.

But, now, the revenue officials told the farmers that they will be paid compensation which is four times the registration value. Following which, a few farmers have come forward to give their lands for laying of bypass road. NH-16 Vistharana and Flyover Sadana committee convener Rajamohan demanded that the officials pay compensation to farmers as per market value.

The public are also demanding bypass road due to the rise in road accidents at Chilakaluripet and nearby villages. The revenue officials have started survey for laying of bypass road.
Narasaraopet RDO G Ravindar said that the farmers were willing to give their lands for laying of bypass road and surveyors took up peg marking at Chilakaluripet.
