Harassment charge against West Godavari college principal, Telugu lecturer

ELURU: Students of Andhra Kesari Prakasam Centenary Government Junior College in Dumpagadapa village at Akiveedu mandal in West Godavari district staged a demonstration on the college campus on Thursday alleging sexual harassment by the college principal and a Telugu lecturer. The college has eight girls among its 78 students for both years and for several days now, they were reportedly facing sexual harassment at the hands of college principal Vara Prasad and Telugu lecturer John Wesley.

Recently, during Nagula Chavithi, when the girl students came to the college in traditional attire, the duo made vulgar comments forcing the girls to return home in shame.
The girl students alleged that the principal and lecturer even offered them to pay their college fees if they became close to the duo.

The boy students said the two were offering private tuition only to girl students.  Parents of a few students and SFI leaders also joined the demonstration seeking stern action against the college principal and the lecturer. Previously, Vara Prasad was reportedly transferred from a junior college in Yendagandi village to Dumpagadapa village 18 months ago following complaints of sexual harassment there.

Meanwhile, on learning about the reason for student protest, AP Higher Education Commissioner B Udaya Lakshmi directed Regional Joint Director of Intermediate Education at Rajamahendravaram YV Subba Rao and Eluru Deputy Educational officer K Venkatramaiah to probe the incident and submit a report.
