VIAJAYAWADA : Reiterating his decision to contest the 2019 elections, Jana Sena Party chief K Pawavn Kalyan has said the party's policies on various issues like agriculture, land acquisition and capital city will be announced on March 14, the third formation day of the party.

The actor-politician said the party website would be launched on the occasion to elicit public opinion on the party policies and based on the feedback, party election manifesto for the 2019 election would be formulated.

Addressing a public gathering at  ‘Chenetha Ikya Garjana - Satyagraham’ organised by the Andhra Pradesh Padmashali Sadhikarika Sangham at Bible Mission Compound near Guntur city on Monday, the Jana Sena chief said he would work hard to see that weavers community, which had no voice in the State Assembly, will get representation in the House  after the 2019 elections.

"I have not come to politics for power, but for social transformation. I will always stand by the oppressed, suppressed and neglected. I will definitely contest elections and Jana Sena Party will always support weavers community,” he said.

Pawan Kalyan's announcement is in tune with the demand of weavers associations for political representation.

They are also demanding an MLC seat under governor quota for the community.

“Unless we have political representation, our problems would not be solved effectively,” said Andhra Pradesh Padmashali Sadhikarika Sangham president K S N Murthy and working president J Srinivasa Rao.

Pointing out the worn-out hands of the elderly women weavers, Jana Sena chief said politician should have empathy and understand the plight of such people. “All their life, they have worked hard to weave the cloths we wear. They are also no different from the mothers of the politicians. At least benefits like pensions and health care should be extended to them. The state government should take up the issue,” he said.

Expressing concern over the dire straits of the weaving community, Pawan Kalyan, who was wearing a light-coloured Khadi kurta and pyjama, called upon people to wear handloom clothes at least once in a week.

Stating that farmers and weavers should never be neglected, he said he would remain the brand ambassador for handloom products till his last breath.

Pointing out at the red gamcha (re-coloured cloth used as towel) he wore around his neck, Pawan K said it was symbol of common man with no caste, creed or religion.

He claimed that he is promoting handloom products and not cool drinks or other commercial products because it gives him  utmost satisfaction.

Lambasting both the TDP and TRS governments for shying away from fulfilling the promises made during the last election, he stressed on the need of a mechanism to monitor the implementation of the promises made by political parties.

He also supported the weavers associations demand for an exclusive finance corporation.
