He was killed when the terror suspects opened fire at him after waylaying his car and demanded handing over the money he had.

The victim, Syed Farooq Basha, 24, was employed by a private company as a site engineer and the incident took place when he was returning to his camp in Abyei, 900 km from Juba, capital of South Sudan, after signing off from duty on that day. About four months ago, Basha visited his parents for Moharrum. He was to marry this year.

It is learnt that Farooq Basha’s parents - SB Qadri and Nasreen Banu -  migrated to Koppal in Karnataka from Kurnool about 18 years ago. The victim, after completing his bachelor’s degree in engineering, went to Sudan in search of greener pastures.

His body will be brought to Kurnool since most of his relatives live in that city where the funeral will be held. The victim’s father, learning about the tragedy, made a plea to the Centre to return his son’s body. The union government in a follow up on his plea, spoke to the authorities in Sudan and made arrangements for flying the body back home.
