ELURU: The doctor from Eluru who was rescued from ISIS captivity after over two years on Sunday said most of the terrorists of the outfit were educated and had a keen interest in India's development story.

Kosanam Ramamurthy said the militants, mostly youth, kept a close watch on how the country was progressing in terms of major social indicators. "Members of the terror outfit are interested in India and its development. They want to spread their ideology across the world and the ideology includes annexing India," he told newsmen on his arrival at Eluru on Sunday.

Ramamurthy was working as a general physician at the Lbn-e-Sina Hospital at Sirte, Libya, in 2015 when a group of ISIS militants entered the premises and kidnapped him, along with three others.

The doctor from Eluru said the terrorists then forced the hostages to watch videos of what it did in Iraq, Syria, Nigeria and other places.

"It was a difficult to watch those gory visuals,” he confessed. They also tried to brainwash their captives by teaching them about Islam, about how to pray five times a day and clean up before prayers for more than two months. Though the hostages were not attacked physically, they were abused verbally by the militants.

Ramamurthy said that ISIS tried to force him to conduct surgeries as he was a doctor, but he refused as he was not trained to perform surgeries. However, he offered to provide medical assistance to the injured. He was rescued and handed over to the Indian Embassy by the Libyan army after they took control of Sirte recently.
