Three notorious smugglers arrested, 22 red sanders logs worth Rs 4 lakh seized

NELLORE: Venkatagiri police nabbed three red sanders smugglers and seized 22 red sanders logs worth Rs 4 lakh and a car from them. The arrested were identified as Jagannatha Mohan (32), Annamalai Paramasivam (37) and Manneti Eswaraiah (32).

Disclosing the details to the media here on Tuesday, OSD P Vitaleshwar said that Venkatagiri police intercepted a car on Venkatagiri-Naidupeta highway near Model School on suspicion and nabbed the accused while they were transporting 13 red sanders logs in their car. Later, the police also conducted raids at a house belonging to Annamalai Paramasivam at Gandhi Nagar in Chennai and seized nine red sanders logs from him. 

Several cases were pending against Jagannatha Mohan and Paramasivam. A manhunt has been launched to nab another accused in the case, said Vitaleshwar. The OSD said that the Task Force led by SP PHD Ramakrishna will curb illegal red sanders smuggling activities across the district.

The Task Force team also consists of a circle inspector rank officer, sub-inspectors, head constable and other police personnel. The Task Force team would work 24/7 especially in border areas to curb smuggling activities, he added. 

The OSD also urged the public to inform about red sanders smuggling to the police through WhatsApp number 93907 77727. Venkatagiri CI Sreenivasa Rao, SI K Kondappa Naidu and others were also present.
