400 kg of ganja worth Rs 40 lakh seized, two held 

The accused were smuggling ganga from various cities of the state and were supplying it to the hookah centres and the students of Hyderabad.

ELURU: The police arrested two persons and seized 400 kg of ganja worth Rs 40 lakh from them at Vankavarigudem in Jeelugumilli mandal of West Godavari district on Wednesday.

On getting prior information that ganja was being transported illegally, Polavaram DSP ATV Ravi Kumar directed Jeelugumilli and Buttayagudem police to conduct vehicle checks on Devarapalli -Tallada highway. The police stopped a mini-bus at Vankavarigudem crossroads and seized 200 ganja packets from it. 

The police arrested the mini-bus driver Egala Ramana of Anakapalli and ganja smuggler Latif Vazir of Narayankhed in Sangareddy district. According to the police,  Latif was smuggling ganja from Visakhapatnam to Narayankhed. 

Latif’s father Maqbul who was doing ganja business, was supplying the contraband to Hookah centres and college students in Hyderabad. The kingpin of ganja smuggling is yet to be arrested. Polavaram Circle Inspector Balaraju, Buttayagudem incharge Sub-Inspector Kali Charan and other police officials participated in the raid.
