Complainants allege hush-up as cops give clean chit to TDP MLA in land grab case

The issue of land grab allegations levelled against TDP MLA from Anakapalle P Govinda Stayanarayana by two women took a new twist on when the police gave him a clean chit.

VISAKHAPATNAM: The issue of land grab allegations levelled against TDP MLA from Anakapalle P Govinda Stayanarayana by two women took a new twist on Thursday when the police, after probing the case, gave him a clean chit, but the victims  dubbed it as a move to hush up the case. The police officials announced during a media meet that after a thorough probe into the allegations, they found that there was no merit in the complaints.

On July 7, one Sheikh Aadambi and her daughter Sheik Afroze from Pendurthy submitted a representation to city police commissioner T Yoganand, claiming that the MLA, his aides and Ramana, a local financier, had threatened with dire consequences and misbehaved with them at the legislator’s house. The CP assigned the case to DCP (South Zone) T Ravi Kumar Murthy for a probe. Having completed the investigation, the DCP called a news conference and narrated the facts found during the probe.

“We rejected the complaint as the allegations against the MLA were found to be baseless,” the DCP told the media.  He explained that Sheikh Aadambi claimed that the MLA had threatened her at the behest of a private financier Ramana with an intention to grab her house at Rathi Cheruvu area of Pendurthi. In her complaint, Aadambi alleged that she and her husband Shaik Ahmed Ali took a loan of `8 lakh at high interest rate from Ramana in June 2015 and had been paying the instalments with interest, totaling `6 lakh till last November.

Owing to financial difficulties, the couple failed to pay the instalments for a few months. As per the complaint, Ramana had been harassing the family over the pending amount. The women also alleged that the financier had made her sign on blank stamp papers and was trying to grab her house forcefully. “During investigation, it was revealed that the woman had entered into an agreement with Ramana for sale of her house to him for `45 lakh. One year ago, Ramana paid `20 lakh to Aadambi. Ignoring the agreement, Aadambi took a bank loan of `25 lakh by pledging the land documents,” said the DCP.
