ANANTAPUR: Most of the social welfare hostels in the district are in a pathetic condition as they lack basic facilities besides food is not being served as per the menu.Despite the claims made by the State government that all facilities are being provided to the students in the social welfare hostels, the fact is that the inmates of social welfare hostels are facing a slew of problems. They are not fed as per the menu. Blankets and uniforms have not been provided besides the mosquito menace is intimidating the inmates, especially at night time.

There are 157 hostels in the district. As many as 5,632 students are staying in 61 social welfare hostels, 12,100 students are staying in 73 BC hostels, 1,800 students in 18 SC hostels. About 12,100 students of BC hostels require 42,601 small size note books and 94,027 long size note books, but so far they have not been distributed. Textbooks should be distributed on the school opening day itself, but they have not been distributed so far in any hostel.
