Weathermen predict heavy rain in coastal districts 

As the southwest monsoon has set in, rain triggered by the upper air cyclonic circulation lashed the north costal Andhra districts on Thursday.

VISAKHAPATNAM: As the southwest monsoon has set in, rain triggered by the upper air cyclonic circulation lashed the north costal Andhra districts on Thursday. Several places in the other parts of the state too recorded rainfall. 


The weathermen said that the upper air cyclonic circulation over the south coastal Odisha and its neighbourhood now lies over northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal off south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coast between 3.1 and 9.5 km above the mean sea level. 


On Thursday, rain occurred at many places over coastal AP and at a few places in Rayalaseema. Tenali in Guntur district and Anakapalle in Visakhapatnam district received 6 cm of rainfall, followed by Owk in Kurnool district (5 cm), Machilipatnam in Krishna district and Vizag (4 cm). Bheemunipatnam in Vizag district, Mangalagiri in Guntur and Repalle in Guntur district, Avanigada in Krishna district, Peddapuram in East Godavari district, Veligandla in Prakasam district, Porumamilla in Kadapa district and Allagadda in Kurnool district recorded 3 cm precipitation.  


The trough on sea level chart now runs from Odisha to south Tamil Nadu across coastal AP and Rayalaseema, said an IMD report.“Heavy to very heavy rain is expected at isolated places in all districts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and moderate rains in Rayalaseema in the next 24 hours,” said IMD officials.
