Sub-registrar remanded in judicial custody in Andhra

According to sources, ACB officials on Tuesday produced the tainted sub-registrar of Gajuwaka in court, which remanded him in judicial custody till July 3. 

VISAKHAPATNAM: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court on Tuesday remanded the tainted sub-registrar of Gajuwaka, Doddapaneni Venkaiah Naidu, in 14-day custody. 

Venkaiah Naidu was arrested by the Central Investigation Unit (CIU) of the ACB on Monday on charges of amassing illegal assets worth Rs 6 crore the market value of which is said to be around Rs 80 crore.

According to sources, ACB officials on Tuesday produced Naidu in court, which remanded him in judicial custody till July 3. 

DSP of ACB (CIU) DN Mahesh said they planned to open a locker in a private bank which is in the name of the sub-registrar's wife. 

"Naidu's wife is in Tirupati. Once she reaches Vizag, we will open the locker. We have sent letters to the bank requesting them not to give permission to Naidu or his family members to operate the locker," the DSP said.

The ACB opened another locker in a public sector bank on Tuesday but didn’t find anything worthwhile. 

The ACB officials said that the gross salary of Naidu is `36,000, but he has been paying `38,000 per month as EMIs.
