High level panel formed to probe Andhra University paper leak

VISAKHAPATNAM: A day after the Mathematics question paper of B Sc final year exam was leaked, a high-level committee headed by former registrar of Andhra University K Ram Mohana Rao, was formed by HRD minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao to probe the case, on Friday.

With the question as to how the papers got leaked remaining a mystery even after 24 hours, the officials are learnt to have decided to take a few more decisions to make sure such incidents do not repeat in future.

Ganta Srinivasa Rao held a meeting with the AU officials here Friday morning. The preliminary enquiry led to the suspicion that the paper might have leaked from a college in the rural areas of Visakhapatnam district. Ganta Srinivasa Rao has asked the officials to increase the number of observers for the examinations. As part of the regular arrangement, an observer is appointed for two to three colleges. HRD minister reportedly asked the officials to have an observer for each college in whose presence the sealed question papers will be opened before being distributed, apart from other formalities. The minister also asked the officials to have video recording of the proceedings, if possible.

“The colleges should get the question papers from police station just one hour before the exam. But, the norm is not being adhered to. Many colleges, especially those in the rural areas,  are getting the papers before time,” he said during the meeting. Rammohan Rao, who is heading the probe panel, said that they were yet to ascertain the source of the leak.”Once, that is established, action will be taken against those responsible for it,” he said.
