Opposition to move no-confidence motion against Andhra Pradesh Speaker

Leader of the Opposition alleges that Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad Rao is working under the diktats of the Chief Minister

VIJAYAWADA: The Opposition YSRC has decided to move a No-Confidence Motion against AP Legislative Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao.

"We have lost trust and respect towards the Speaker as he is acting as per the dictates of the treasury benches. We will move the No-Confidence Motion," said Leader of the Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

Speaking to mediapersons after staging an a walk out from the House on Thursday, Jagan took strong exception to the style of functioning of the State Assembly for the last two days.

Alleging that the treasury benches and the Speaker were resorting to unparliamentary procedures, he said that the Speaker had abruptly adjourned the House on Wednesday as per the diktats of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Chief Whip Kaluva Srinivasulu.

"While the Chief Minister directed the Chief Whip to ensure adjournment of the House after administering pledge on water conservation, the Chief Whip gave a hand signal and the Speaker adjourned the House abruptly without giving me a chance to speak," he said.

Similarly, on Thursday, the Speaker diverted the issue when a debate on AgriGold issue was going on, he said and added that all these episodes and the partial attitude of the Speaker forced them to move the no-confidence motion against the Speaker.

Speaker’s comments on women played in Assembly

With the treasury benches raising the issue that the YSRC was trying to malign the image of the State and individuals with the help of its Sakshi media and also saying that the said media house even tarnished the image of  Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao by distorting his statements on women, a video clip relating to the Speaker’s comments was played on the screens in the Assembly on Thursday.

Before the commencement of the three-day National Women’s Parliament (NWP) held last month, the Speaker interacted with mediapersons. A section of media reported that the Speaker compared women with cars and they would be safe if they are confined to houses just as the way a car inside a shed.

The objection of the ruling party leader was that Sakshi TV and Sakshi newspaper, owned by the family members of Jagan, distorted the Speaker’s comments on women and also provoked other news channels and sought action against the said media house.

The Speaker said that he was disappointed a lot with the propaganda.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and the Legislative Affairs Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu underscored the need for taking action against the media for damaging the image of the Speaker with false reports.

As the YSRC members were not present in the House at the time of playing the video clip in Assembly, Yanamala said that the House will take a decision over the issue after giving a chance for the YSRC members, too, to have a glance at the video.
