14 tractors seized for illegally transporting sand in Andhra Pradesh's Krishna district

The 14 tractors were transporting sand illegally from Balkapuram to Telangana.

VIJAYAWADA: The revenue officials of Jaggaiahpet mandal in Krishna district on Friday seized 14 sand-laden tractors and later released after imposing penalty.

According to Jaggaiahpet Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) D Chandrasekhar, the 14 tractors were transporting sand illegally from Balkapuram to Telangana State in the early hours of Friday. On prior information, the revenue officials conducted raids on sand excavation ramps in Balkapuram where the contractors were found violating the sand mining rules and regulations. Sand was unloaded and vehicles were released after imposing penalty worth Rs 5,000 each. However, the officials did not register any case against either contractors or vehicle owners.

According to the Jaggaiahpet police, no police case has been registered against the violators, for the MRO is yet to submit a report to the police about the incident. Based on the report, the police will register a case under WALTA (Water, Land and Trees) Act for illegal transportation of sand after excavation in river canal.
