Kurnool simmers as temperature soars to 41 degree Celsius

Weathermen forecast that mercury levels will rise further in the coming days.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Rayalaseema districts continued to reel under scorching heat as Kurnool registered 41 degrees Celsius on Sunday, the highest in the State.

As the weathermen forecast that the mercury levels will go a few notches up in the coming days, administration has urged people to take precautionary measures to keep the heat impact at bay.

On Sunday, Anantapur recorded 40 degrees Celsius, followed by Tirupati, Gannavaram, Tuni, Nellore, Kavali and Jangamaheshwarapuram where the maximum day temperature hovered between 36 and 38 degrees Celsius.

However, the weather officials say that the temperature departure  from the normal was 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, with a rider that the mercury levels may see a gradual rise from the month-end. “The temperatures are likely to increase by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours. Thanks to the wind profile which is towards the seaside now, under the influence of southerlies and easterlies, there are is not much rise in the temperature. Once the wind profile changes in North India, the mercury level will continue to rise in Coastal AP,” said an official at the CWC, Vizag, on Sunday.

However, the minimum temperatures over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema during last 24 hours were below normal at one or two places. The minimum temperature of 21 degrees was recorded at Nandigama and Arogyavaram.
