VIJAYAWADA: In a twist to the murder of N Sasikala (38) and her son Anish Sai (6) in New Jersey, her husband Hanumantha Rao has sent word to his in-laws who live in Vijayawada requesting them to give the US police a clean chit about him so that he can perform their last rites in the US.

"Our son-in-law Hanumantha Rao wants us to give him a clean chit, but we suspect that he is responsible for the murders. We have already told the US police how we feel about him. We do not want to give any clean chit and even if we want to, how can we do it after telling them that we suspect him of being responsible for the murder? We want the bodies to be brought to India so that we can get a final glimpse of them before they are cremated," Sasikala's father Venkateswara Rao told Express on Tuesday.

Venkateswara Rao said the US police had questioned around 70 people including the woman with whom Hanumantha Rao allegedly had an affair.

Sasikala and her son were found dead in a pool of blood last Thursday night at their flat located in Fox Meadows Apartment Complex in Burlington of New Jersey.

Even after five days of the commission of crime, mystery still shrouds their deaths. The police have recovered Sasikala's laptop and mobile phone and are looking for leads that might help them arrest the culprits. The police are going through the CCTV footage at the apartment to get an idea as to who went inside and who came out of the apartment complex that day.
