VISAKHAPATNAM:  A joy ride of three minors ended on a tragic note after their speeding bike fell into a roadside pit at Vinijigiri of Jami mandal in Viziangaram district on Sunday night. They died on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as S Nagamajji (17) and B Koti (13), both residents of Kottam and V Laxmana (15) from Tandrangi village of Jami mandal. Nagamajji and Koti borrowed the bike from one of their friends from the same village. The duo went to the Jami mandal headquarters for a joy ride on Sunday evening.

They picked up their friend Laxmana from Tandrangi village while they were on the way to Jami. After spending a few hours in Jami, the trio were returning to Kottam, said Jami police SI N Raju.

The minors reached Vinijigiri at around 9 pm and suddenly they lost control over the speeding bike. The vehicle swerved off the road and fell into a 20-feet-deep pit on the roadside.

The eyewitnesses said that the minors were tossed into the air under the impact before crashing down on the ground. They were rushed to a hospital through 108 ambulance service, but declared brought dead. The bodies have been shifted to Vizianagaram hospital for post-mortem.

“The minors were riding the bike without wearing helmet. We are counselling the youngsters caught during vehicle checks as well as their parents. We have started booking cases against the parents for allowing minors to drive,” said Vizianagaram SP Kalidasu Ranga Rao.
