HYDERABAD: The High Court on Thursday directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) not to carry out any construction that adversely affects the buffer zone, full tank level (FTL) and inflow channel of Malka cheruvu (lake) at Raidurg in Serilingampally mandal in Rangareddy district.

Vacation judge Justice A Rajasheker Reddy  passed this interim order on a petition filed by E Sudhakar, a local fisherman, demanding an end to the construction of a walkway  near the lake and to clear the debris. Petitioner’s counsel R Sameer Ahmed submitted that his client’s livelihood would be badly affected due to these activities.

The GHMC officials are filling the lake and its inflow channels with debris and going with construction of a walkway. Destruction of lake in the name of beautification is not good for the city GHMC’s counsel, while denying the allegations, said that the corporation has taken up the activity of constructing a path for pedestrians without affecting the FTL or buffer zone. GHMC was directed to file counters.
