GUNTUR: The State government is taking steps to upgrade primary health centres (PHCs) into community health centres (CHCs) with a bed strength of 30 in Guntur district.
Andhra Pradesh Medical Sciences and Infrastructure Development Corporation (APMSIDC) is upgrading 6 PHCs at Sattenapalli, Macherla, Gurajala, Ponnuru, Nagaram and Najampatnam into CHCs for the benefit of rural people. The APMSIDC had released `15 crore from NABARD funds for this project. It had also allocated Rs 95.8 crore for completion of various projects in Guntur district.

The APMSIDC sanctioned Rs12.98 crore for the construction of 11 CHCs at Nuzendla, Machavaram, Panidhem, Mandapadu, Emani, Chebrolu, Sagamjagarlamudi, Amruthaluru, Kanagala, Pandrapadu and Nadendla. “The CHC at Nadendla has already been extending medical services to the public.

The remaining 10 CHCs would be completed before March 2018. A community health centre with a bed strength of 30 is also coming up at Thullur at a cost of Rs4.3 crore,” said APMSIDC EE Y Ashok Kumar
Works worth Rs 10 crore have been taken up at government general hospital in Guntur. A nursing college and a hostel would also be set up on the premises of Fever Hospital at a cost of `20 crore.

The APMSIDC had taken up works worth Rs 4.5 crore at Vinukonda, Epuru, Vijayapuri South, Vemuru, Pedakurapadu, Prathipadu, Kollipara, Amaravati, Pittalavanipalem and Repalle in Guntur district.
