ANANTAPUR/VIJAYAWADA : A 17-year-old ended his life by consuming sleeping pills in Anantapur on Wednesday even as a 16-year-old hanged himself in Nuzvid.According to police, the deceased 17-year-old, G Vasudeva Reddy, hailed from Bhogalakata village of Yaadaka mandal and was pursuing second year MPC course in Sri Satyasai Junior College. Unable to cope with academic pressure, he reportedly committed suicide by consuming sleeping pills in his hostel room. Noticing Reddy lying unconsciously in his room, fellow students alerted the college management and then the police. Reddy was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared brought dead.

“We found a suicide note in the victim’s pocket. In the letter, he said he had no interest in education as he was frustrated with studies and had no desire to live,” said the police. However, Reddy’s parents held the college management responsible for their son’s death and demanded action against the staff who allegedly harassed him. “My son was not a coward to kill himself in haste. He was tortured mentally by the management and finally driven to suicide,” the victim’s father Narayana Reddy said. Human Resource Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao directed the Region Inspection Officer of Anantapur to probe into the suicide and submit a report at the earliest.
