Employment: MSMEs generate over 2.5 lakh jobs in AP over last 3 years

VIJAYAWADA: The intention of the State government to generate more employment by focusing on Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) seems to be yielding desired results as the employment provided through MSME sector crossed 2.5 lakh during the last three years.

As per the details available with the Industries department, Visakhapatnam district stood top with generating 66,397 jobs in the sector while Kadapa stood in the bottom with 4,483 jobs.
With the state government recently deciding to give more focus on MSMEs by setting up a MSME corporation and embarking on developing at least one MSME park in every Assembly constituency, officials of the Industries department are confident of generating more jobs in the future.

Disclosing the details of investments and jobs generated  in the MSME sector for the last three years, an official of the Industries department says that though the number of jobs stood at 42,396 in the 2014-15 fiscal, the same increased to 1 lakh in 2015 - 16 and 1.07 lakh in 2016 - 17 fiscal. In total, number of jobs crossed 2.5 lakh in last three years.

“The figures reveal the progress achieved in the MSME sector in the last three years. With the government paying special interest towards the sector, we are sure that MSMEs going to generate more employment in the future,” an official told ‘Express’. Elaborating about the flow of investments into MSME sector during the last three years, the official said that the investments stood at `2,019 crore in the 2014-15 fiscal and it increased to `9,297 crore in 2016-17.
