VIJAYAWADA: No cash sign boards continued to greet people at ATMs of several banks across the State on Tuesday. The situation has been haunting the State for the past 4-5 weeks.

Of a total 7000 ATMs in the State, about 1000 are running dry, say bankers. According to them, about 40 percent of financial transactions at ATMs have come down. In Guntur town, 70 percent of ATMs sport ‘No Cash’ signs most of the time.

“I visited three ATMs, but to no avail. I went to SBI to withdraw `20,000. But, officials said there was a shortage of cash and allowed me to withdraw only `10,000,” said M Krishnaiah, a retired teacher.
