KAKINADA:  THE body of Telagareddy Bala Nageswara Rao (52), who was abducted and killed by Maoists, was handed over to his family at his native village of Banapuram in I Polavaram mandal of East Godavari district on Tuesday. Bala Nageswara Rao was kidnapped by Maoists on April 14.

He was killed on the following day. He was a mason who had taken up a sub-contract in a road project under Kistaram police station limits in the neighbouring State of Chhattisgarh. He is survived by wife and two children. His daughter Thota Revathi is an MPTC of I Polavaram. A few years ago, Bala Nageswara Rao migrated to Hyderabad where he started taking up sub-contracts. Recently, he bagged a sub-contract in the road construction project at Kistaram in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh. Maoists warned him against taking up the project but he went ahead with it.

With this, the Maoists kidnapped him and eventually killed him and left his body at Kasaram Naala village in Kistaram police limits. Later, they informed the villagers who, in turn, took the incident to the notice of the East Godavari district police on Monday. East Godavari SP Vishal Gunni made arrangements for handing over the body to Bala Nageswara Rao’s relatives. The last rites for the slain mason were performed on Tuesday evening.
