VISAKHAPATNAM: Women activists from Visakhapatnam district have planned a 48-hour hunger strike from February 21, demanding immediate arrest of movie director Ram Gopal Varma for his derogatory comments on one of the members of a women’s organisation in the city.  At a time when the Telangana police are taking action against the director, their AP counterparts are still in deep slumber, the women activists alleged.

“We will launch a 48-hour fast at the Gandhi statue near the GVMC if the AP Police do not arrest RGV immediately. Our protest will continue till the director is put behind the bars,” M Lakshmi, woman activist from the city, told the media here on Monday.

Last month, the AIDWA members, along with a few women’s organisations, burnt Ram Gopal Varma in effigy during a protest alleging that his film ‘God, Sex and Truth’ would spoil the minds of the youngsters. Women organisations lashed out at Varma for his derogatory comments against an AIDWA member.
